'No,' said the child. 'What is it?'

Ask Me

Ooo, yummy!  Just picked up the trial prints and digital images of my fishy paintings that I did when I was painting in the pet shop.
They have come out true to the original colours, and nice and crisp.  The originals are going to be on display in a local showhome but I plan to make some A4 prints available online.

From back: Dwarf Gourami, Yellow Lab and Blue Ram.
Coloured pencil over chalk on black paper.

Now, a request. Would you help me?
As an addition to my art website (katherinesteeds.com), I want to make up a set of questions people might want to ask me regarding my art, influences, and processes etc.
Although many of you and I go back a long way, if you didn't know much about me, what would you like to know?
Answers in the comments or email kate.steeds@gmail.com.

Finally, no, I haven't forgotten the Who Owns This Front Door competition.  Coming soon. Promise.

  1. 1. Some artists are partly motivated by the notion that by leaving something of worth behind they will achieve a measure of immortality. To what extent do you fall into this category?
    2. Your art often seems driven by a passion for the natural world. What unvisited aspects of the natural world would you most like to capture?
    3. Your portfolio appears people-less when some other artists might specialise in human faces and the human form. Why are there no people in your work?

  3. When did you start to paint?
What training have you received ?
What made you take up this ( the painting of fish , birds etc ) type of work? Is it the fine detail that captures your interest most?

Not quite as academic as YP but I'm just a simple girl !!!

  4. I have thought of another intellectual question:-
    4. What's your favourite colour?
( Even though I already know that it is Barbie pink!)

  5. Who is (are) favorite artist(s) and why?
Do you prefer working indoors or outdoors? Why?
Do you prefer morning or afternoon light? Why?
How early did you know you wanted to be a professional artist?
Which medium is your favorite to work in? Why?
Which medium is your least favorite to work in? Why?

  6. Do you concentrate solely on the type of art in your last exhibition?
I say this because I know - and love - some of your other works (particularly 'that' landscape) as well as the more detailed work on the Godwits etc.
